Dr. Massimiliano Ornaghi
Dr. Massimiliano Ornaghi has been temporary professor of ‘Greek Civilization’ and ‘Greek Literature’ at the University of Turin. His research is focused on the archaic poetry, the ancient chronography, the biographical traditions of the ancient Greek poets, and above all on the Attic comedy.
As Humboldt Fellow of the University of Freiburg (Seminar für Griechische und Lateinische Philologie), he will conduct the research ‘Chronology and History of the Attic Theatre’, that aims to combine fields of research usually treated distinctly: the study of the origins of the Attic theatre and the study of the dramatic forms of the theatre of the fifth century BC; the study of the tragedy (and the satyr play) and the study of the comedy. To do this, many types of evidence will be collected and analyzed: archaeological, epigraphical, classical and post-classical literary evidence. The combination of this new research perspective and of a more extended analysis of the data aims to yield an improved vision of the history of the ancient Greek theatre, by tracing the steps, the characteristics, and the functions of the Attic theatre in the first two centuries of its existence.
